My Story

Hello, I’m Susan 👋

I’m a mum, a sister, a professional and a committed ally to neurodiverse children, young people, and families.

My journey began when my eldest son was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at eight. Feeling unsure and overwhelmed, I committed myself to learning as much as I could. As I searched for answers for him, I discovered something important about myself too — I am also neurodiverse.

As a child, my own diagnosis was hidden. I was “a pleasure to teach” and appeared to cope, but inside I was often struggling and confused. Those early experiences shaped the deep empathy and understanding I carry today for children who seem fine on the surface but are working incredibly hard underneath.

As a parent, I know how exhausting it can be to keep advocating when you feel unheard. I’ve seen how unmet needs can lead to trauma and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), and I understand just how heavy that can feel for the whole family. I know how overwhelming and fragmented the system can feel.

Alongside my lived experience, I bring professional expertise gained through roles in school nursing, health visiting, and within a CAMHS neurodevelopmental assessment team. These roles have given me a strong understanding of how to navigate systems and communicate effectively with professionals to help secure the right support at the right time. I also hold a First Class degree in Child Development and a Master’s degree in Psychology. It is the combination of professional knowledge, personal insight, and genuine passion that shapes the way I work.

Most importantly, I would be honoured to walk alongside you through this process. You do not have to manage it alone — I understand, and I am here to support you.

Susan
